Muladhara
Muladhara is the root of existence, symbolized by a lotus with four petals.
Muladhara is located near the coccyx beneath the sacrum. Its activation point is located between the perineum and the coccyx or the pelvic bone.
Seed mantra and other symbology
The seed mantra associated to Muladhara is lam, represented in the middle of the lotus. The point that forms part of the syllable, called bindu, represents Brahma, The Creator. Its *tattwa*, representing the element of Earth, is a yellow square. The inverted triangle that appears just below the syllable is the seat of kundalini, a divine feminine energy, which is said to sleep there.
Properties
Muladhara vibrates with crimson red, which is a symbol of physicality and physical will of being. Sickness taints it in dull-black; passion or pain make it scarlet or cordovan red; and anger or greed makes it more vivid.
The element of Muladhara is earth and its sense is smell.
It is in correspondence with the spinal column, bones, teeth, nails, anus, rectum, colon, prostate gland, blood, and the building of cells.
Muladhara is associated with the suprarenal glands, responsible for adrenaline production and temperature balance.
Root Chakra Activation
According to Hindu, Buddhist, and Kabbalah belief, chakras can open or close as a consequence of our actions. Their state influences what we think and feel in a given situation. In fact, they represent the connection between our consciousness and the body. Activating or opening your chakras means balancing them so they are not blocked or overactive. A blocked chakra is likely causing some other chakra to become overactive in compensation.
Balanced Root Chakra
A balanced root chakra can provide emotional strength like letting go of fear and anxiety. This results in feeling grounded and secure. An imbalance in Root Chakra can cause a variety of mental illnesses and stress which can also affect overall physical wellness.
Blocked Root Chakra
When the root chakra is blocked, you might feel anxious, scattered, or unwelcome. When it’s overactive, you might feel materialistic and greedy.
You can activate your chakras through a meditation. While meditating, it can help chanting the lam mantra, visualizing the chakra symbol, as well as applying principles of aromatherapy and crystal therapy.
Aromatherapy
Herbs, resins, and essential oils may be beneficial for physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual healing. Aromatherapy is one of the more popular approaches to energetic healing.
Muladhara is reactive to oils that are warming, grounding and slightly stimulating. The smell of sandalwood, cedar, rosewood, ginger, cloves, black pepper, rosemary, and other “earthly” smells can heal the Muladhara.
You can apply oils with these smells to your body while meditating or using them for a massage.
Crystal therapy
Crystals are a powerful means to clear your blockages and bring your chakras back into alignment. They offer unique energy to focus on different chakras and activate them.
