Sahasrara

Crown Chakra

Sahasrara, symbolized by a lotus flower with 1,000 petals, is associated with the spiritual self. When this chakra is balanced, you feel more open-minded and tend to be aware of the world and how it is connected to yourself. When it is blocked, you cannot get in touch with your spiritual reality and tend to get stuck into rigid thinking. When overactive, it is easy to fall into the trap of intellectualizing everything all the time up to the extreme of prioritizing spirituality over your bodily needs.

Sahasrara, which is Sanskrit means “thousand” or “infinite”, is located at the top of the head.

It is the most potent energy centre in the entire chakra system, since all other chakras emanates from it.

Seed mantra and other symbology

The seed mantra associated to Sahasrara is aum, which is said to influence brain functions including memory, intelligence, and focus. Its *tattwa*, or element, is Ä€di Tattva, which means “without beginning and without end”, representing the source of creation, the pure light and one reality, that is, God.

Properties

The color of Sahasrara is purple, the color of spirituality, associated with letting go and with the joy of transformation, change. The color purple allows the self to go beyond material values.

Crown Chakra Activation

According to Hindu, Buddhist, and Kabbalah belief, chakras can open or close as a consequence of our actions. Their state influences what we think and feel in a given situation. In fact, they represent the connection between our consciousness and the body. Activating or opening your chakras means balancing them so they are not blocked or overactive. A blocked chakra is likely causing some other chakra to become overactive in compensation.

Balanced Crown Chakra

If your Crown chakra is open, it will bring you a more positive outlook on life. One effect of that is the Ego will not be so predominant on the Self and emotions like gratitude, compassion, and acceptance will prevail. Additionally youw will feel spiritual understanding and peace.

Blocked Crown Chakra

A blocked Crown chakra will cause attachment to materialistic values as well as a rigid way of thinking, which implies unwillingness to other ideas, thoughts, or knowledge. Other symptoms are confusion, lack of inspiration, and excessive desire of sleep.

Overactive Crown Chakra

When the Crown chakra is overactive, it manifests itself through a sense of dissociation from the body, or of being disconnected and ungrounded. Other symptoms are cynicism, apathy, spiritual addiction, and excessive search of knowledge.

How to heal the Crown Chakra

You can activate your chakras through a meditation. While meditating, it can help chanting the vam mantra, visualizing the chakra symbol, thinking about it, its meaning, and how it affects your life, as well as applying principles of aromatherapy and crystal therapy.
